Ears of the Field - Siri Austeen17.03 – 02.04 2011
Opening Thursday 17.03

The Ears of the Field project is a sound installation where the public can hear many individual perspectives on international conflict situations. In total eighteen discussions shed light on the relationships between history and the present, between the individual and the system, and between differing everyday realities. You can hear Leah Chishugi tell about her activities for the women of East Congo, Victor Lind, artist, on his political activism, as well as Aung San Suu Kyi´s public speech about Myanmar living conditions, and Erik Solheim, Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development, on economic resources and poverty traps. The conversations are presented in the form of a camp; a micro-environment with 6 listening posts. The sound of birds, indigenous to these conflict areas, is a central element of the installation. Ears of the Field will also be the platform for the film entitled Enjoy Poverty by Renzo Martens, NL, and be the starting point for the Ear Camp workshop with teenagers from Hersleb school in Oslo.
