School Dinners – a Kunstkantina + Tenthaus project

As a part of the project School Dinners, Tenthaus Oslo’s regular participants from Hersleb High School will prepare a meal together with Kunstkantina, a collaborative art project.

School Dinners takes as its starting point the seed, and its potential for transformation. It will allow it to work as both metaphor and active ingredient in an educational context and process that encourages individual students to grow as they participate in this hands-on project. Led by Kunstkantina, the group will create a meal using home-grown ingredients, thereby bringing the Tenthaus philosophy of `learning by doing` into transformative action.

Mellomstasjonen

"The aim of this article is to contribute more knowledge about how arts educational practice in the school context can be understood and developed. The cooperation between Tentahaus Oslo (TO), an initiative driven by artists, and the basic education section for minority students at an upper secondary school is brought forward as an alternative to more traditional forms of encounters with art and art communication in basic education and in the voluntary music and performing arts school."

2016kollasje 3

Creativity Resides Here? proposes a temporary architectural form to accommodate artist practice in preexisting schools. Our idea should accommodate artist studios, as well as space for creation and exhibition of productions created in collaboration with a resident artist.

The changing role of the contemporary artist and the need for innovation as a core skill developed through education demands a revision of artist space in schools. In particular, creativity is being heralded as a cross curricular factor demanded for the education of the future.
